Samann Interview /

You first started DJ’ing at the age of 14. What was it that first attracted you to start DJ’ing at such a young age and what kind of music were you mixing?

It is true I started very early to make a DJ because the music has always been part of my life. Since young, I always had a strong focus and attraction for sounds in general, for example my first musical memory dates back to the cartoon "TheAristocats": do you remember Romeo? the cat strumming with his jazz band whilecourting Duchess? well, I instead pay attention to history, as he would any otherchild, I was fascinated by the sounds they produced all those passionate about making tools to jazz music. This music has struck me so much that I soon got into the likes of Nina Simone, Saint Germain, Miles Davids, Paul Count and has beena crescendo of passion for listening to music "connoisseur". This fact was the music that is breathed into my house and that was the soundtrack of many beautiful moments. With the first money (aside with difficulty) I bought my first flat and I started mixing the music of artists that I mentioned first, then going up to the sound of the 80s/90s Kerri Chandler, Chez Damier, Ron Trent etc.

How did it come about that you met the revered Chicago house producer Chez Damier and what was it like working with him? You are involved in a collaborative project with him called ‘Room 104’ as well aren't you?

In 2009 I had the pleasure of knowing the great Chez Damier: I could not believe, I was fascinated by the artist had responded to my greeting on Facebook! Make friends and could not resist: I had to make him listen to my music. Since then gave birth to a musical collaboration that over time it has gone beyond the simplerelationship: Chez and I feel almost every day and we are interested in one anotherin our lives, he is like father to ask advice, a friend, a mentor. He was the first to believe in me enough to work together  to remix "Million People" which I considermy baptism music. Currently we are focusing on the new project called Room 104 ... stay tuned .

Your debut EP on Tsuba Limited, sounds great there seems to be some 80’s / early 90’s Chicago influences in there. Can you tell us a bit behind what you had in mind when you made the EP?

As I said before I was and am fascinated by the sound 80s/90s style music with which I feel I have a good feeling, so much to bring the sound of those years in a very natural on my last project.

Vakula, the Ukranian producer, seems to be everywhere at the moment and producing some really fantastic music.  How happy were you to get him onboard to remix one of your tracks for the EP?

The collaborations between artists are always positive experiences, when you have the opportunity to work with artists such as Vakula is always a pleasure at this moment is going very strong. Nice to hear how their creations are interpretedby other artists!

What can your fans expect from you in 2012?

2012? ... the end of the world! Joking! The fans always expect great music and I hope not to disappoint. Now I'm working on several projects that I hope you hear soon, but I prefer to talk about this at the right time.
