Geddes & Mic Newman / Biog
While Geddes and Mic Newman may be artists from opposite sides of the world, their musical partnership has yielded fantastic results.
Hailing from London, Geddes is one of the true pioneers of the London house scene. Among those ahead of the game when it came to the fragmentation of the super club and the dawn of a new warehouse era, Geddes and his mulletover party crew were integral in the rise of the underground and have helped shape the heart of its landscape and sound in the capital and beyond. When he started the now prolific mulletover events back in 2004, it was through grit and determination and an enduring love for exploring and championing the freshest talent and securing original spaces that Geddes became a figurehead in the evolution of a thriving house and techno scene.
Since then, Geddes has turned his attention to a number of creative projects including the launch of his own label, murmur and offshoot party venture nofitstate. In the three years since murmur was born, the imprint has become synonymous with the kind of homegrown talent that embodies the underground events Geddes curates. With a back catalogue of authentic deep house from a family of quality artists, it has a real community feel at its centre and continues to join the dots from innovative production to live experience.
The other half of this production duo, Mic Newman (also known as Fantastic Man) hails from a family of muscicians in Melbourne and with key releases and remixes on major labels in Europe, this has meant his transition to the international audience has been impressive. Beginning with a remix of seminal influence Booka Shade on their acclaimed Get Physical imprint in 2009, future hits followed. Most notably his “Sizzled Sally” EP on UK label murmur Records further enhancing Mic’s trademark style.
Follow up releases on Tsuba, Dirt Crew, 20:20 Vision’s sub-divisional; Fina Records, Freerange along with his “Machine Love” EP on his return to murmur Records have ensured a committed following from tastemakers and DJs alike.
Keen to explore a different side to his talents, Mic has launched an illusive alias, ‘Fantastic Man’; which has so far seen success on Wolf Music, Melbourne Deepcast, and his own “Plastic Fantastic” EP on Detroit label Kolour LTD, the later reaching the illustrious number 1 position on Juno’s top sellers chart.
As both these artists have such a rich musical heritage once their paths crossed it wasn’t long before they hooked up together in the studio with impressive results. The Solaris EP on Tsuba Records gathered DJ support from many of the scenes leading lights such as Cassy, Seth Troxler, Jonny D, Catz & Dogz and Paul Woolford among others, leaving us to hope it is not too long before these artists meet up in the studio once again.
